Dick Van Dyke

Career Overview

The Dick Van Dyke Show theme is one of the most recognizable songs in television history.  As soon as you hear that big band sound, don’t you immediately envision Rob Petrie entering the front door of his New Rochelle home to be greeted by Laura and Ritchie, only to then subsequently trip over (or side step) the infamous ottoman?

The theme was written by music man Earle Hagen, who also composed music for The Andy Griffith Show, That Girl, The Danny Thomas Show, I Spy, and many other memorable shows.

David Van Deusen obtained permission from Earle Hagen to create an a cappella barbershop quartet arrangement of the theme song for Dick to sing with his quartet.  The arrangement has been performed on television (TV Land Awards, Bonnie Hunt Show, CBS Sunday Morning) and at numerous public appearance over the years (Hollywood Bowl, Rose Marie’s Walk of Fame ceremony, D23, and various charity events).

Through additional licensing recently secured from the Earle Hagen estate, Van Deusen is now able to offer this classic arrangement for sale to barbershop quartets so you and your group can perform it, too. An audio recording of the arrangement is also available for purchase for your listening enjoyment. (Click here to listen to a sample of DVDS theme)

If you are interested in purchasing copies of the arrangement or just a recording of the song, send an email to:
